TKM Debating Competition

All Assam Tanu Konger Memorial Debating Competition:

The College holds a State Level Inter-College debating competition titled "The Tanu Konger Memorial Debating Competition" every year  on current issues and problems. The College takes pride in inviting participants from the different Colleges and Universities of Assam. A panel of experts belonging to different Institutions and Organizations are generally invited to conduct and adjudicate the competition. A total of Rs 31,500 cash Prizes are awarded under different categories.

College week:

The "College Week" is observed every year in the College. Students are encouraged to participate in quiz competitions, debates, recitation, indoor and outdoor games, singing and dancing competitions, art and craft competitions etc. Students are also given incentives to participate in Inter-College competitions at the District, State, Regional or National level.

National Service Scheme (NSS):

The National Service Scheme in the College has helped the students in many ways. By adopting this scheme the College has been able to create awareness among the students to develop a sense of responsibility and to redefine their personality through community service. The Departmental Associations and Forums of the college helps the students to develop their talents in creative works. The Teacher of every Department plays an active role in holding various programmes like Seminars, Symposium. Workshop and Conferences. It also undertakes educational excursions, field study and such other need based activities. Students can apply for membership to these Associations and Forums once they are admitted to the College.

Important achievements of NCC and NSS units in the college/institute

  • Participation in Workshop on Challenges & Opportunities in NSS in Assam from 23rd to 24th October, 2019 at Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati. : Dr. Rimjim Borah, the NSS Programme Officer of NSS unit, Gargaon College was selected to represent Dibrugarh University and to participate a Workshop on Challenges & Opportunities in NSS in Assam from 23rd to 24th October,2019 at Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati.
  • Participation in East Zone Pre-Republic Day Parade Camp, 2019. : Jnantrisha Phukon, an NSS volunteer was selected to participate in East Zone Pre-Republic Day Parade Camp, 2019 from 8th to 17th November, 2019 at Kolkata, West Bengal.
  • Participation in North-East NSS Festival In Kohima 2019.: Four volunteers of NSS Unit of Gargaon College Jnyantrisha Phukan, Murchana Phukan, Prioduymna Mohan and Bikram Rajbongshi participated in North-East NSS Festival held in Kohima Science College, Kohima from 8th - 12th December 2019
  • Participation in NSS Camp on Leadership and Personality Development, 8th - 12th January 2020.: Seven Volunteers of NSS Unit Gargaon College- Jnyantrisha Phukan, Aasha Devi, Baisaly Dowarah, Mallika Gogoi, Priyanka Saud , Sumon Gogoi and Kalyan Jyoti Saikia participated in the Inter Institution Camp On Leadership and Personality Development held in Guwahati University from 8th - 12th January 2020. Two Volunteers Jnyantrisha Phukan and Baisaly Dowarah got best Volunteer Award in this Camp.
  • Participation in North-East NSS Festival in Tezpur University of Assam from16th- 22nd January 2020.: Two volunteers of NSS Unit Gargaon College-Jnyantrisha Phukan and Baisaly Dowarah participated in North East NSS Festival held at Tezpur University from 16th-22nd January 2020.
  • Participation in National Integration Camp (NIC) from 16th February to 22nd February, 2020.: Two volunteers of NSS Unit of Gargaon College-Jnyantrisha Phukan and Surashree Phukan participated in National Integration Camp held in SSU University of Cuttak, Odisha from 16th February to 22nd February,2020.
  • Dipjyoti Gowala, an active volunteer of NSS unit of Gargaon College got the best Poster presentation award from the Anti-Spitting Campaign titled - Public Spitting and Covid-19 conducted from 12- 16thJune, 2020. The programme was organized by State Tobacco Control Cell, Assam in collaboration with National Service Scheme, Assam and Assam Cancer Care Foundation (a Govt. of Assam and Tata Trusts Initiative).
  • State NSS Award for 2018-19 period, declaration on 10th June, 2020.: Dr. Rimjim Borah, the Programme Officer Of NSS unit of Gargaon College is awarded State NSS Award for 2018-19 period.
  • Best Volunteer Award (COVID-19 Warrior.: Dipjyoti Gowala , an active Volunteer of NSS unit, Gargaon College, Simaluguri volunteered in this project from May to October (5 months) 2020. He got the Best Volunteer Award for his Volunteerism. He also got an appreciation certificate from Pratishruti Cancer and Palliative Trust and from Commissioner of Police, Guwahati for his dedicated service.

National Cadet Corps (NCC)

Gargaon College has two NCC divisions: 49 Assam Naval Unit NCC and 11 Assam Girls(I) Coy. NCC In the Naval wing enrollment is open for 1st Sem. Students of B.A/B.Sc/B.com (both boys and girls). For 11 Assam Girls (I) Coy. Only Girl students of 1st Sem. B.A./B.Sc/B.Com are eligible for enrollment.

 

WELFARE SCHEME:

Free Medical Camps:

Free Medical camps are organized by the College from time to time with the help of reputed Medical Practitioners. These camps are open for the students, staff and for the people of the neighboring locality.

Scholarships:

  • National Scholarship (All India basis)
  • State Merit Scholarship
  • Schedule Caste/Schedule tribe Scholarship
  • OBC/MOBC/Ex-Tea Garden Labour Scholarship     

The above scholarships are granted by the government for which application forms of eligible students are forwarded to the respective authorities for consideration. After the Sanction of the scholarships, the money will be deposited into individual accounts.

Hostels

Hostel Facilities:

The college has separate hostels for both boys and girls. The girls’ hostel called Chao Ching Konwari Girls' Hostel has a capacity of 150 while the boys' hostel named as Suklengmung Boys' Hostel has 45 numbers of seats.

Hostel Admission and Hostel Rules:

  • Application for hostel seats is to be submitted in the concerned office on the day of admission.
  • Seats are allotted on the basis of merit cum distance.
  • Students admitted to the hostel shall follow the hostel rules strictly.
  • All Applicants must submit medical certificate. On failing to provide medical certificate, seats will not be allotted.

Hostel Rules:

The boarders of the hostel must abide by the following hostel rules.

  • Every boarder of the hostel shall have to observe the timing of Breakfast, Meal, Tiffin, Study hours and evening roll calls circulated by the superintendent of the hostel.
  • During study hours no boarder should remain outside without permission from the Superintendent.
  • Drinking of alcohol or use of drugs shall be considered as a major offence and shall be dealt with severely.
  • Leave of absence from the hostel must be obtained in advance from the Superintendent. If a boarder is absent from the hostel without permission from the Superintendent it will be considered a major offence.
  • No outsider should be allowed during the study hours or College hours and no guest should be entertained without prior permission from the superintendent.
  • No boarder shall quit the hostel without permission which may be granted only on payment of all the outstanding arrear against him/her.
  • Explusion from the hostel implies expulsion from the College and vice versa.
  • College hostel shall remain closed during the summer vacation and puja vacation and no boarder shall be allowed to reside in the hostel in any private capacity without permission from the Principal.
  • The mess dues must be paid by the boarder within 15th days of the each month or within such a date as may be notified by the hostel superintendent. Non-payment of hostel dues in time should be sufficient reasons for disciplinary action.
  • The Superintendent will maintain a conduct register. The boarders are liable to be punished and have their names entered in the register for misconduct.
  • Cases of serious indiscipline in the hostel shall be reported by the Superintendent to the Principal for appropriate action.
  • All boarders must attend classes regularly.
  • Hostel admission is meant for one year only. However, a boarder who fails to clear End-Semester Examinations in three semesters consecutively shall have to vacate the seat immediately without any further notice in this regard.

Students Union 2020-21

The Gargaon College Students' Union is the general body of the students of the College. Every student of the College shall be a member of the Students' Union. The Office Bearers of the Students' Union are annually elected by the students through a general election from amongst the students of Semester – I to Semester-V (Arts, Science and Commerce) only. Only regular students are allowed to contest in the election.
