About Gargaon College Central Library


 

The Gargaon College Central Library is housed in a state-of-the-art building and is situated at Gargaon - a place of historical and tourist importance which is at a distance of 14 km east of Sivasagar town. It remains open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm on all week days. Students with College Library Card are allowed to borrow books from the library. The poor but meritorious students are provided with Book-Bank facility in order to empower them. A reprographic section is also available in the library for the users. The Central Library has a collection of more than 32,000 books. In addition to this, there are more than 10,000 books available in different Departmental Libraries of the college. A good number of national and international magazines, periodicals, journals and news-papers are subscribed by the library. Computerization of the college library has been done with "Koha Integrated Library Management System" on Cloud Environment with KVM Technology.

All students of the college are members of the college library by virtue of the library fees they pay at the time of admission. Every student using the library is provided bar-code generated Library Identity Card. Library provides two books on loan to each member student of HS and Degree (Core) students and three books to each Degree (Major) students.

Book Bank facility is provided to the poor meritorious students. In this service the library provides 04 (four) books for a period of one month to the selected poor meritorious students.

 

The library provides free internet and e-resource to the students and faculty members through 20 computers available at the first floor.

 

OPAC- Online Public Access Catalogue is an important tool to search the title/author from the data of the library.

 

E-journals and e-books information available in electronic form can be accessed by the students from the library.

 

BOOK EXHIBITION- Library organizes and displays book collections on different occasions.

 

INFORMATION LITERACY PROGRAMME- Library arranges orientation programs for students to acquaint them with the library collection, the section-wise arrangement and services available at the library.

 

NEW BOOK SECTION- New addition to the library collection is displayed and the lists are circulated and displayed on the notice board.  Jackets of the new books are displayed in the display board.

General Rules of Gargaon College Central Library

  • Readers shall maintain perfect order and silence in the library.
  • Making noise, spitting, smoking, or doing anything else which may disturb other readers or which may be against the discipline of the library is strictly prohibited.
  • No person is entitled or permitted to mutilate, disfigure or deface by writing in the margins, by underlining sentences, by marking passages or by damaging in any other way, a book, periodical, map or chart or any other property of the library.
  • A reader responsible for any damage caused to the reading materials or to any other property of the library shall be required to replace the reading material or pay for the property, besides the penalty imposed upon him by the librarian.
  • If books issued to a member are found mutilated at the time of return, he/ she shall have to replace the same or pay the price thereof. Therefore, members are requested to check the books thoroughly before getting them issued.
  • Books must be returned/ renewed within 10 (ten) days from the date of issue. A fine of rs.1.00 per book per day will be levied if a borrowed book is kept beyond the date of return.
  • No tracing or mechanical reproduction of any books, maps or manuscripts shall be made without due permission of the librarian.
  • If the students have any complaint about the services provided by the library, they should not enter into any argument with the library staff. Instead, they are advised to bring it to the notice of the librarian.
  • Any infringement of the library rules shall lead to cancellation of membership of the library.
  • Do not keep any valuable belongings like ornament, currency, mobile etc. at the property counter. If however, it is found to be lost, the library authority will not be responsible for that.
  • If the library card is lost by any student, it should be reported to the librarian immediately.
