About

The prestigious DBT STAR COLLEGE SCHEME in the Gargaon College was awarded in the year 2017 by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under ‘Strengthening Component of Star College Scheme from Undergraduate Colleges of India’. Various student as well as teacher – centric activities are being conducted for their overall development.

Amount Sanctioned              : Rs. 80, 00, 000/- (for 2 years, 2017 – 2019).

Objectives

  1. Star College Scheme has been initiated by DBT to support colleges offering undergraduate education to improve science teaching.
  2. To strengthen the academic and physical infrastructure for achieving excellence in teaching and training.
  3. To enhance the quality of the learning and teaching process to stimulate original thinking through ‘hands–on’ exposure to experimental work and participation in summer schools.
  4. To promote networking and strengthen ties with neighboring institutions and other laboratories.
  5. To conduct specialized training programmes for faculty improvement for optimizing technical capabilities.
  6. To increase capabilities of core instrumentation resources by procuring new equipment and upgrading of existing facilities.
  7. To provide access and exposure to students to research laboratories and industries in the country.
  8. To provide better library facility to students and teachers.

  1. Department of Botany and Zoology organized a Popular Talk Role of Sericulture in developing Entrepreneurships among Youths was organized on February 17, 2018. Total Participants: 110

  4. Department of Physics organized a Popular Talk on X Ray Crystallography for the students of Botany and Zoology on September 6, 2018. Total Participants: 75
  5. Department of Botany organized one week Workshop on Bioinformatics for the students of Botany and Zoology on February 4 – 9, 2019. Total Participants: 60
  6. Department of Botany organized Workshop on Herbarium Technique for school students   on March 13, 2019. Total Participants: 20.
  7. Filed Visit to Orchid Conservation and Propagation Centre by students of Department of Botany on January 31, 2019. Total Participants: 30.
  8. Field visit to Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary by the Students of Department of Botany on March 01, 2019. Total Participants: 25.
  9. Industrial Visit to Digboi Oil Refinery by the Students of Department of Geology on March 03, 2018. Total Participants: 40.

Qualitative improvements due to DBT Star College Scheme support

  1. Star College funds have upgraded the existing laboratory facilities of the Gargaon College and enabled the department for smoother conduction of regular practical and project work.
  2. Exposure of Students to different types of Instruments.
  3. Students are utilizing the library facilities supported by Star College Scheme.
  4. New experiments were introduced in the syllabus.
  5. Interdisciplinary activities have been taken up by all the Science Department.
  6. Students from the nearby Institute do their project work in the Science laboratory of the College.

To provide quality education by infusing a new spirit among the learners is the prime objective of the college. It will be our endeavor to march ahead with this motto and pursue knowledge in a fruitful way.
