Best Practices of the Department

  • The faculties of the Department of Statistics always train their final semester students for PG Entrance Examination of various State Universities.
  • The Department organizes students’ seminar time to time to enhance their subject skill, knowledge, communication skill along with their personality development. A self-presentation builds confidence in him/her, for which he/she becomes determined and self-assured with his/her future plan. It helps particularly students from rural background.
  • From the year 2020 onwards the Department had introduced a scheme titled- ‘OAOB: One Alumnus One Book’ Scheme. Education is a continuous learning process. Students in the department require books for learning purpose. There is a provision in the Department to lend books to the economically poor students for the entire Semester. College Central library has all the books necessary for learning the course prescribed in the syllabus. However, multiple copies of some books are not available. To resolve this issue, Department library is established. However, funds for procuring books for the departmental library are not available. The faculties of the department regularly purchase books for the department library from their own contribution. To overcome this financial problem, the faculties have started appeal to their alumni to donate one book on Statistics of their choice to enrich the departmental library.
  • The faculties of the Department of Statistics help the economically backward students by providing not only books, but other stationaries too including scientific calculator which is an essential for all Statistics students in regular manner.
  • The students of Statistics have to participate in a research project in three-year undergraduate course, through which he/she becomes professionally more skilled in statistical computing using computer software as well as data collection, analyzing data etc.
  • Some other platforms to enhance the knowledge of students are – seminars, webinar, workshop, practical orientation through projects, assignments etc.
  • To enrich students’ overall knowledge about history and geography of North East India, as well as to introduce them to the ethnicity, culture and other societal issues of various ethnic group of North Eastern part of India, the department organises self-financed day long educational tour to nearby place of interest every year.
