The Department of Physics was established in the year 1969. The Department has a strength of 5 experienced Faculty Members with 1 M. Phil and 1  pursuing Ph.D.  The department  offers U.G.  Courses  (B.Sc. - Hons. and B.Sc. Generic).

The department has an association named as the Physics Department Teachers and Students Association. The Association is mainly involved with the academic activities of the teachers and students, providing help to the poor students, holding guardian meetings, holding departmental seminars and any other activities for students. Moreover the department plays an active role in  science based activities conducted by the Gargaon College Science Forum.

Mission of the Department

Mission and vision are inalienable to every institution and the department of physics cannot be apart from it. The department is trying its best to create a rich academic atmosphere so that the  passed out students can be engaged in various ways. The department lays stress on the students regarding discipline, punctuality, obedience, patriotism and their duties. We are confident that under the new setup, co-operation and good will from all the stake holders the department will be able to serve better to the students as well as to the entire college.

Future Plan of the Department

The Department of Physics is always trying its best for its development by fulfilling the needs and requirements. Among the present time needs and requirements the scope of technical education like computer hardware, mobile repairing, physics apparatus repairing or any other repairing skill is very much comprehensive. The department with the co-operation of the college authority has a plan to institute a certificate level course so that our students can enhance their skills along with the general education. Moreover the department has another plan to create revenue with the help of students to provide financial help to the poor and meritorious students.

Department library

The Department of Physics has a library which was established since the establishment of the department. Teachers are the in-charge of the library which is open on all the times during college working time. The students can read the books during leisure time in the department.

Publications of the Department

RESONANCE: The Department of Physics initiated a wall magazine since 2003 which is serving a living record of its contents i.e. essays, poems, various articles etc. The name of the magazine is “RESONANCE” which is mainly student concerned and conducted by them with the help of teachers. The magazine is periodical and published once in a year and gives the students a regular exercise of both the brain and the pen.
