The Department of Geography was established in the year 1985. Since its inception the department has been offering H.S. and U.G. Courses. The department has a strength of 4 experienced Faculty Members with Ph.D. 3 and 1 M. Phil.  The department has an association named as Geographical Forum, Gargaon College. The Department has a well equipped laboratory. The Department also maintains a rich collection of books in the departmental libraray.

Mission of the Department

  • To create awareness among pupils about the “land and people” of different parts of the world.
  • To create awareness about environmental pollution and sustainable development.
  • To train up students for map preparation of different Geographical topics.
  • To train the students in pursuing small research projects with local problems.

Future Plan of the Department

  • To take up research projects (socio-economic survey, intensive field works, preparation of map for various purpose on rural development)
  • To organize seminars, symposium, workshop etc. on conservation of bio diversity.
  • To organize awareness program among the students for utilization of local resources for self-employment.

BASUNDHARA : The Department has been publishing its students' Wall Magazine “BASUNDHARA”  twice a year since 2008 incorporating the articles contributed by the students and faculty.
